Sustainability

At Prime Gelato, we make deliberate and conscious choices about how we source, produce, package and serve gelato. We also make deliberate, conscious decisions on how we operate. We are lessening out impact on the environment by reusing and repurposing materials, recycling and composting. We are constantly reviewing our practices and innovating ways to further reduce our footprint, and to contribute to a healthy community within which to live and work.

We use all compostable cups, pints, etc. made from sugarcane, and spoons made from paperboard that can be recycled or composted. We use recycled napkins, bags, paper towels, and actively recycle daily. We use reusable produce trays, milk crates and use metal spoons in our laboratory to reduce our carbon footprint and bring us closer to a zero waste facility.  We also recommend eating gelato in a handmade cone using local flour for the most eco-friendly consumption! We use energy efficient lighting and equipment. 

Most importantly, we're extremely careful about the ingredients we use. We choose locally grown foods not only to protect the environment and to support local producers but also so that we are serving the freshest and most delicious food.

Even in the non-food products we sell you can see our dedication to using local where we can. We collaborate with other local businesses to create merchandise first and always choose Thunder Bay first.

Our facility is a great example of our belief in sustainability. We uncovered and restored the original 100 year old tile and wood flooring as well are restoring the exposed brick wall.
